The spaces that Anja Ganster constructs in her interiors are as exhilarating as they are bewildering. The viewer`s first and abiding impression is that of having walked by chance into the painting, into enviroments whose atmosphere is so charged that each detail seems to pulse with energy. One senses that for Ganster her paintings are an autonomous place in which she can explore things that in reality are hard to comprehend. The themes that preoccupy the artist above all - space, time and movement - are connected, both in terms of the construction of the paintings and intellectually, by their relationship with light. It is primarily Ganster`s treatment of light that influences the viewer`s perception of her interiors as places that reveal dimensions of reality normally hidden from view.
